Three weeks on the road in a 4x4 and under canvas, from Etosha to the dunes of Sossusvlei and the Fish River Canyon, in July 2024.
A three-week loop through some of the emptiest and most spectacular landscapes in southern Africa. After a first night at a guest farm near Windhoek, the road climbs to the Waterberg plateau, then to Etosha National Park: whole days spent watching the waterholes, among elephants, giraffes, zebras, oryx and lions.
Damaraland follows, with its red rock country, the rock engravings of the Brandberg and the silhouette of the Spitzkoppe, the Matterhorn of Namibia. Then the coast: Swakopmund and its German air, the flamingos of Walvis Bay, and the 4x4 run out to Sandwich Harbour, where the dunes plunge into the Atlantic.
The Namib desert is the heart of the trip: Sesriem Canyon, Dune 45 at dawn, the walk out to Dead Vlei and its dead trees set in white clay. The road then drops south to Lüderitz and the diamond zone, the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world, before turning back through the Kalahari and its red dunes.
