France 2017 — Aveyron, Lot, Tarn and Aude
From the Millau viaduct to Carcassonne by way of the Tarn gorges, Conques, Rocamadour and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, in September 2017.
The deep south-west in September, once the crowds have gone. The Aveyron opens the road: the Millau viaduct, the rock chaos of Montpellier-le-Vieux, the Tarn gorges, then the villages of the Lot valley, Estaing, Entraygues and the abbey church of Conques.
The Lot strings together the prettiest villages in France: Carennac, Autoire, Loubressac, the Padirac chasm, the shrine of Rocamadour clinging to its cliff, and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie above the river, not forgetting Cahors and its vines.
The end of the trip heads south: Najac and Cordes-sur-Ciel, the brick cathedral of Albi, the Montagne Noire, the walled city of Carcassonne, the Limousis cave and at last the Mediterranean at Gruissan.
