Kathmandu and its temples, then the trek up the Langtang valley and to the Gosaikunda lakes, in April 2015.

Nepal 2015 — Langtang and Gosaikunda

A first trip to Nepal, and a first big trek. Kathmandu to begin, with the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the great stupa of Bodhnath, the monkey temple and the Durbar Square of Patan.

The trek starts at Dhunche and climbs the Langtang valley by Thulo Syabru and Lama Hotel to the village of Langtang, then on to Kyanjin Gumba and its monastery. The ascent of Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) opens onto the glaciers of Langtang Lirung. The way back goes through Chandanbari and Laurebina to reach the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda and their pass at 4,165 metres.

After a scenic flight along Everest, the last days went to the towns of the valley: Bhaktapur, Thimi, Kirtipur, Bungamati and the Golden Temple in Patan. A few days later, on 25 April 2015, an earthquake devastated the country and wiped the village of Langtang off the map.
